I want to lose about 10 lbs.
I've started eating healthier. I jog for about 20 mins. couple times a week.

I want to know what kind of workouts are there to burn fat?
Videos, instruction sites would be great.

Thanks everyone.

Answer
jogging is the best, everyday, try to jog just a little further/longer...

One thing that works for me is: before I eat, I drink a large glass of water, then if I'm still hungry, I won't eat as much as I would have.

It's better to eat 5-6 small meals than 2 or 3 regular meals each day.

also, fyi:

1 pound = 3500 calories.

If you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight.

ie, if you eat 2000 calories per day and burn 2500, you will lose 1 pound every week.

the average person burns 1000-1500 calories per day, just being alive.

power walking can burn 200-500 calories per hour.
exercise bike can burn 200-600 calories per hour.
swimming can burn 100-800 calories per hour.
jogging/running can burn 300-1200 calories per hour.

Also, try not to eat within 3-4 hours of going to sleep.

*********VERY IMPORTANT************

when trying to lose weight, very important to drink lots and lots of water ! ! !
You should drink at least 10 glasses per day, like 1 glass every hour !

This helps your body get rid of the fat when you are burning calories.

How much weight would I lose per week if I burned 300 hundred calories a day 6 days a week?

I'm a 16 year old girl. about 5'4 and 151 lbs.
I just got a Schwinn Airdyne and I'm planning on burning 300 calories on it (which took me a little over an hour tonight cuz I didn't have a whole lotta energy) 6 days per week.
well, at least according to the calorie counter on the bike it will be 300

and I've been trying to cut down 500 calories a day, too, but I'm not always sucessful.

How much weight would I lose per week if I burned the 300 calories a day and didn't cut out the extra 500 calories a day? And how much would I lose if I burned the 300 calories a day and DID cut of the extra 500 calories a day?

I think having a better idea of how much weight I might actually lose will give me some motivation. :)
also- i know it's probably hard to tell just from the info I gave you...

but I just want your guesses
thanks

Answer
First, at age 16, you should not diet without the consent of your doctor. This is due to the fact that you are still growing and inappropriate/improper dieting can interfere with your growth. Please see your doctor and he will refer you to a nutritionist or a dietician for a healthy weight loss diet.

Second, 300 calories a day for 6 days is a total of 1800 calories. For every pound you lose, you must omit 3500 calories. So, at a loss of 1800 calories, you would lose approximately a half pound per week. Of course, it would be more than this if you are also exercising.

Healthy weight loss should be about 2 pounds per week. You lose it too quickly, you will gain it all back and then some...you may even get sick in the process. As I stated earlier, you are still growing. Please see your doctor for a safe and proper diet.

I'm a 22 year-old smoker, I weigh 220 down from 230 about 2 months ago. I used to run on a treadmill for one mile a day. I have since stopped because it is way too difficult being a smoker. (please spare me the responses on quitting)

My weight loss goal is 20 lbs. I believe this is within reach but I would like someone with experience to tell me how long I should pedal per day to get the fastest results. Thanks!

Answer
HI
You should ask your gym instructor to give you a program that suits you with controlled heart monitoring, The usual training for CV machines is: Tread mill for approximate 8min.for your worm up.
Move on to a choice of bikes, you have chosen recumbent bike which is good for 20min. and then you what to cool down by perhaps using the tread mill in walking pace for approximate 5min.If you find this is hard going start with a lesser time on the machines and increase your pace gradually.
But you should all ways remember that exercise on its own will not make you loose wait, you must ad a correct diet designed for you by your gym instructor or your dietitian to run along side with your exercise, i hope this is of Any good to you.

What's better a recumbent or regular exercise bicycle?

Is there much difference in calories burned, quality of exercise or comfort? The bicycle will be used for general weight loss and fitness purposes, not hardcore training.

Answer
As long as you put the effort in I dont think there is much of a difference in terms of calories burnt. The only difference, I think, recumbent bikes offer back support and a larger seat which may be more comfortable for certain people. In my opinion its just personal preference.
