I have an exercise bike, but would running be more effective for weight loss?
I want to build as minimal muscle as possible.
Or is there a better way then both of these?
Also, with running, I'm concerned of getting attacked by a dog.

Answer
Both are good for weight loss, but the most important thing is to get your heart rate to 80 percent of it's max for about 30 minutes at a time. If you don't want to gain that much muscle, it would probably be better to run because cycling will really build your leg muscles. If you run, you're also moving your arms so you will also give them a little tone. I hole heartedly understand your fear of getting attacked by a dog. My sophomore year of college, I lived in a really rundown neighborhood and had a neighbor who kept her german shepherd outside all the time which was fine until she gave birth. After that, the dog became quite territorial and even though she was familiar with me would sometimes chase me. After it happened twice, I decided to go running at parks where dogs were required to be kept on their leash at all times since I couldn't afford a gym membership. If you can make it to a swimming pool 3-5 days a week, you might want to consider that too. Swimmers, in my opinion, have some of the best bodies out there. No matter what workout you choose, make sure to stretch a couple of times a day. This will help lengthen your muscles over time, so you still get the strength and tone from the muscle you gain from working out to give you more of a sleek build. Good luck on your weight loss and don't forget to eat smart.

How many miles on an exercise bike?

What should be a daily goal of miles to ride on an exercise bike each day?
For a good weight loss?

Answer
you should do four forty five minute sessions a week, and your body becomes acclimated to exercise after doing the same ole thing. So make sure you mix it up, walk, run, bike, sprint, jump rope, stairs, elliptical, row machine, boxing and kickboxing. 45 minute sessions because you don't start burning fat til 15minutes into cardio exercise.

Do you know of a virtual reality DVD that gives the illusion of biking/walking alone or in a virtual race?

I want to use it while on the treadmill or on a recumbent bike. I need motivation and the feeling of walking in Hawaii or in the Black Hills or exploring Luray Caverns in Virginia or walking through the Louvre might help. I tried the i-Fit DVDs and videotapes, but they have annoying instructors. All I want is music (maybe) and the illusion of walking or biking on the beach or in the mountains. A commentary might not be bad; the problem with the i-Fit tapes is that they periodically stop the virtual reality portion of the tape to focus on the instructor. If I wanted an exercise tape, a la Jane Fonda or the curly-haired guy, I'd buy one.

Answer
I checked on Collage Video, and the Video Cycle or Video Stride videos seem to be what you are looking for:

The Video Cycle Hawaii looks cool from the preview.

100 pushups and situps a day every day cept for 1 day a week, then on every other day ride a bike 2 miles?

How much weight could i expect to lose like that mixxed in with semi healthy eating?

Answer
not a lot, especially with "semi healthy" eating. if you're serious about losing weight, you need to eat healthy, not "semi" healthy(not rabbit food, just balanced).

bike riding 2 miles is a very short period of time, i can do 6 on the recumbent with a book and not break a sweat. if you don't want to go to the gym, ride your bike more,(if you can ride your bike there, why drive? save gas, money, and burn calories and ride at a higher gear if you can), and add more things you can do at home.

-lunges
-hand weights
-resistance bands
-jumping jacks
-lift your arms up, and tilt your torso to one side, straighten up, and do the other. that'll work your "love handles."
-the classic women's aerobics leg exercise: lay on your side and lift your higher leg up and down, back and forth, and in circles. wrap that leg over your lower, and do little lifts with your lower legs. switch sides. you'll work your quads, outer thighs, and inner thighs, even if you feel really silly doing it. i'm a girl and i do.
-get a video or a game, like Yourself! Fitness for PS2.
