they wouldn't even have time to think, only work.

Answer
I've lived this, and actually still do live at a
low income level.
It is possible to live at a low income level
if you are compelled to if you are single and don't have to
support a family and you deal with it realistically.
1. Get food stamps, use low cost stores such as Wal-mart, Aldi
and buy rice, beans, carrots, tomatoes and fix your own chicken
and fish. Try not to waste money eating out at restaurants or fast food.
Buy from the value menu if you must buy fast food

2. You can buy reasonable clothing and shoes at Thrift stores.

3. Drive an older used car which is easy to maintain, such as a GM Ford or
Chrysler from the 1980's or 1990's. If you can use a bicycle
or public transportation, do so.

4. Get energy assistance from your state or county if possible and use layers
of clothing during the winter months so you can allow your inside temperature to
fall into the fifties or forties. Keep thermometers (you can buy them for $1 at
the dollar store) near your pipes and turn on your heat if it falling below 40° F to
avoid the devasting and crippling expense of frozen pipes.

5. If you smoke Quit. Cigarettes are $5.00 per pack in my state and more than
$7.00 per pack in many others.

6. No cell phone or cable TV. Unfortunately, it is hard to go without internet but
get DSL from a company which charges less than $30 per month and get lifeline
assistance on your landline.

7. Seek very low cost housing.

8. If you are single and have no kids, stay that way. Don't bring kids into this world you cannot
provide for.

9. One true challenge is health care. One may be able, as a very poor person to access some
local resources and clinics for checkout but one
unfortunately does have to skip recommended
preventive procedures . If any organization offers a health fair, you get your butt to it so
you can get your blood pressure and cholesterol
levels checked. Try to take care of oneself ,stay clean, brush teeth so that emergency dental care is not needed. Walk or bike for exercise and try to avoid junk foods and items
that impose headaches and health challenges.

If you are not in an expensive large city such as San Francisco or New York and
you are single, this is possible.

As a poor person, if you have any wisdom, you make the same choices as
middle class person who is recovering from heavy debt does, sacrifice and spend wisely.

Would it be smart to bike to the Sharks game from San Francisco?
