Im looking to buy a used exercise bike, but honestly, i have no idea what to look for!
What qualities should i look for in the bike? I wanted to find something relatively cheap, but i also dont want something thats a complete piece of junk you know?
Any advice?

Answer
There are 3 general categories of exercise bike:
1. Upright resistance. The upright uses a flywheel or fan for resistance. Stay away from the fan since they are much louder. Flywheel types often use belts or other friction material so always check them if buying a used one.
2. Recumbent. This is the one where you sit low to the ground and put your legs out forward. These are good if you have a back condition. The only true way to see if you like them is to try them for a workout. They have similar resistance units to the upright types.
3. Spinner. These have a direct drive meaning they don't allow you to stop pedaling unless you have an emergency stop device. They are probably the best workout, but are definitely not for everyone especially if you have knee trouble.

A quick and dirty way to see the condition of the unit is to check ride it, check the pedals for wear and if they're bent. You'll also be able to listen and see if the resistance unit feels smooth and quiet. If not, something is wrong and walk away.

Try all 3 types out at a local health club. That's the best way to see what works for you. You can often pay for just one visit and not have to get a membership.
Try the local classifieds and CraigsList in you local for a used one and hopefully have a friend with minivan or pickup. Used is the only way that you'll get a worthwhile unit for low cost.

I want to purchase an exercise bike but I found there are so many types such as stationary bikes, recumbent bikes, cardio bikes and etc. What's the differences?

Answer
If your want to slim down by burning extra fats during exercises, you should choose stationary exercise bikes. There are three styles of stationary exercise bikes that include upright, semi-recumbent, and recumbent which are available on different prices. You can ride these bikes while listening to music, reading your favorite book or watching TV.

If you want to increase stamina and also strengthen the muscles in legs, arms and improve the overall functions of heart, the recumbent bike is what you need. This type of exercise bike is designed in ergonomic way, which increases the pedaling efficiency as well as comfort for extended riding. So you can sit in a chair-shaped seat and do pedaling on the pedals out in front. This is special good for those who suffering from lower back pain and joint pain to ride.

The cardio bike works on the cardiovascular system of the body. You can do both easy and hard training on it just with the flick of a wrist. Ride this type of exercise bike can strengthen the muscles of legs; improve the core stability and increase blood flow.

Hello to D

ive just recently started riding a bike, been riding a cheap mountain bike someone gave me and have decided to invest in a good road bike,I don't want to spend more than $1500.i have a bad back so figure the lighter bicycle might be good can anyone recommend tips on buying a decent bike?

Answer
Buy a recumbent. If you go to physical therapy for your back, you are going to ride a recumbent exercise bike.

I have had lower back surgery and now ride a Lightning recumbent. I still have my mountain bike but sold my road bike soon after getting the recumbent.

You can get the exercise you need and still be comfortable on the recumbent.

what is the best fitness equipment that would help an overweight lady in her 40s to get thinner....and fast?

lilcutie24

i want to get something for my mom. i thought the treadmeal was the best but my other sister said it would make pains for her on the knees and would be difficult.
is there anything that would help her lose weight on her stomach precisely?

Answer
Elliptical is definitely easier on the knees than treadmill. I find that a recumbent bike is even better. You sit on the bicycle seat and reach your legs out in front of you to push the pedals. It gives a good cardio workout, and burns lots of calories. If she wants even better calorie loss, she can hold small weights in her hands (or strap them to her wrists) and do coordinated arm movemnts while she pedals. Tip: if she sets up a small fan nearby, she'll be cooler and possibly exercise longer.

Unfortunately, there's no way to spot-reduce. Some exercises will bulk up particular areas... like thighs, butt, and upper arms -- but you can't target your fat loss. I wish I could!!

Is it more difficult to climb hills on a recumbent bike than a conventional bike?

recumbent exercise bike vs
 on Kettler RT307 Recumbent Bike - Exercise.com
recumbent exercise bike vs image

AVA

I am not a physicist but there must be some scientific explanation about the hill climbing characteristics of a recumbent bike vs. a conventional bike. From my belief about leverage, a conventional bike would be much superior to a recumbent.

Answer
I suspect much of it has to do with the riders. I've never seen anyone on a 'bent climb very well, but most of the riders seem to be overweight casual cyclists. Many of them go with recumbents because of physical problems that make conventional bikes uncomfortable.

Another factor, 'bents aren't allowed in competition, so most of the truly fit riders stick with conventional geometry.

'bents are also the province of the mechanically inventive odd duck. More interested in the mechanical workings than in speed or riding. Witness the Human Powered Vehicle Association, and the fact that most 'bent riders sport odd facial hair.

Obviously the recumbent has a significant aerodynamic advantage, and is far faster on the straight and level, but gives up a little in weight. The $64 question is if there is enough leverage advantage to make up for the weight difference when climbing.
-------
Edit: I should note that I occasionally use exercise bikes at the YMCA. They have some upright AND recumbents from the same manufacturer. While I haven't rigorously tested and documented, I can say that I haven't noticed any significant power output difference between the two at the same heartrate.
-------
Edit2: Lets not confuse torque and power. If you're operating at a point where leverage is an issue, you're in the wrong gear....... or in your lowest gear on a really steep climb and thus geared incorrectly for the ride.

What are the pros and cons of upright vs recumbent exercise bikes?

Does one burn more calories than the other? Any other advantages or disadvantages that you know of?

Thanks!

I prefer recumbent due to lowerback safety.

Answer
Try to exercise more slowly, keep hydrated, if you still feel the same way, then get your blood pressure checked. It may be uncommonly high. Also, do you live at altitude, like Denver, Reno, etc?
And if so, for how long? Altitude can cause these same symptoms until you get acclimated.

My knee is swollen and in pain.?

Snow Bunny

I am 19 and about 4 years ago i tore all the cartilage behind my left knee cap. The doctors put e through 3 months of physical therapy. It has been fine until recently. I started walking 4 miles every other day and the days i wasn't walking i have been bike riding 6-12 miles I have always been very active so this is not really abnormal for me. This past week my knee has been swollen and in the same pain, sometimes worse then it was before..what could it be.

Answer
Snow Bunny. Try this. Go to a health food store, here in Denver, I use Vitamin Cottage.
Buy the powder, BONE MEAL. AND DOLOMITE.
THEY COST about $5.00 each. Take one teaspoon of each and mix it in a shake.
Use banana, and it will absorb the grittiness of the powder. This is calcium in a very
digest able form. Do this about every other day, make your shake with milk or juice,
any kind of fruit, but always add banana. Your knee will heal nicely. Lay off pushing
the exercise. Don't push into pain. Try some yoga, or something less stressful on your
knee, for awhile. Bone meal and dolomite is almost like a miracle in the joints.
Also soak a cotton rag in hot water and powdered tumeric, to alleviate swelling.
That's an old remedy. It's kind of messy, as it stains your skin, until you shower...
but very healing and reduces swelling.. blessings. . Diana

What exercises can I do to speed up weight loss?

luisa

i'm trying to lose weight, and i already do 30 minutes - 2 hours of the exercise bike at a moderate pace each night. i also sometimes do a few sets of jumping jacks, crunches, leg lifts and push ups but i don't thing it is enough. what other exercises can i do at home without any equipment which can help speed up weight loss? thank you.

Answer
1. Walking

Fast walking is better than slow walking, but both are beneficial. If you want an exercise to lose weight quickly, walk briskly for half an hour and you can burn up to 180 calories.

2. Jogging

Jogging is very good for your health. It provides a great cardiovascular workout, strengthens and tones your muscles. Jogging is an effective way to burn more calories, which helps you lose weight. One hour of jogging can burn roughly 584 calories.

3. Jump Rope

Jump Rope is also one of the most effective exercises for burning fat Jumping rope at a moderate pace would burn about 700 calories in an hour. Of course, most people will only jump for 20 minutes which would lead to 250 or so calories burned.

I am a very large man and I weigh far too much, and I am tired of it. I have decided to try everything I can to get down to a decent weight, a very strict diet, exercise, and possibly if needed surgery. I would like to get an exercise bike that will support my weight so I can exercise more often, but most I have found support only 300 to 400 pounds. I realize I am much larger than most people ever get, but I hope somebody knows of a machine that can hold at least 620 pounds. Thank you in advance for any help to point me in the right direction.

Answer
Congratulations!!! First things first, I want to say how proud I am that you've decided to get healthier. I hope that you stick with your plan and make some changes for the better! At times you may get discouraged, but please don't give up.

As for an exercise bike and other equipment you could use, I honestly don't know where to find this information. Perhaps you should ask your doctor to find you a good dietician and a good physical therapist to help you. These people are highly trained and can help you in your journey by giving you advice, teaching you about how to lose the weight, and encouraging you along the way. They may also know places for you to find what your looking for as far as equipment.

In the meantime, before you go investing in lots of exercise equipment, try some small things if you haven't already.

Go for daily walks (even if you can only make it around the living room for now). Do this a couple of times a day, every day, and each day or each week increase the distance. Maybe now you can only make it around the house, but work your way up to going around the house twice, then more, then down the street, increasing your endurance a little at a time.

Another idea is to buy a cheap work out video and some cheap little wieghts at walmart or someplace. Even if you can't do 30 minutes of hard core workouts jumping and dancing around like the 20 year old fitness-guru on the video, at least try and do just the arm movements with the wieghts, or try and do just the leg movements. Again, the goal is to steadily increase your activitiy each and every time.

It's hard to give you advice because I don't know your baseline level of activity. Remember, you aren't going to runa marathon overnight, your goal for now should be to increase your activity level each week, to burn more calories. burnburnburn!

It will take little bitty achievements, small steps, one at a time. But in a matter of weeks, months, years you will look back and see how far you've come.

Again, consult your doctor, try to find a good dietician, physical therapist, and trainer to help you along the way. They can give you better advice than anyone here, as well as cater it to you personally and help you along the way.

GOOD LUCK!

Does anyone know where I can find a relatively cheap exercise bike?

Kayti

Ok, I bought a stationary bike a few years ago from Walmart for about $100 but the thing is crap. It's very noisy and it's pretty much garbage. Does anyone know where I can buy a fairly priced exercise bike? $100-250 would be preferable. THANK YOU!

Answer
look in the classified ads in your local newspaper

if you don't have any luck that way place a classified ad for 'want to buy', you are sure to find one!

you can also call around pawn shops & thrift stores

I am looking to buy a bike, I ride in Singapore so the roads here have heavy traffic, lots of lights and turns.

I want a bike for exercising, leisure and commuting. which should i get?

Answer
Try to find a hybrid without a front suspension fork. If you are riding on the roads, a suspension fork is weight and complication that you don't need. The hybrid's bigger wheels and lighter frame make it a better choice than a mountain bike. While a road bike would work, they are more expensive and more fragile than the hybrids.

Can you rate my upper body workout?

I am a 16 year old multi-sport athlete. I play lacrosse, football, paintball, and downhill bike. I have been lifting weights for about 2 years, but very inconsistently. I started in freshman year lifting about 4 to 5 times a week for about 2 months after football season ended. I then moved to Singapore and gave up on lifting since I was so depressed. Eventually over the summer on my vacation back to the states I started lifting for about a month an a half again with my trainer. When I returned in the fall to school I played football again, and only lifted 2 to 3 times a week in my weight training class which was pretty pointless. After this past winter I decided that I was going to get serious again about my lifting. So I did. I began lifting about 5 times a week. I am about 180lb. and 6' 1".

My workout now is:

Arms: each exercise has a contrasting lift so for example biceps curl then skull crusher switching in between each set
Standing barbell Curl- highest weight I can do 5 times(my first set of 5 is for 7 reps) in between every set I do...
Skull crusher: highest weight I can do 8 reps of for 5 sets

Hammer curls: highest weight i can do 8 of for 4 sets, i usually can go 8, 7, 6, 6 for reps then increase to 10 pounds higher for failure
Flat dumbbell extensions( 6 reps of highest weight i can do for 5 sets then go up 5 pounds and do 5 negatives)

Concentration Curls( 5 reps for 4 sets with negatives going down, usually need help from other hand bring it up for 4 and 5 rep)
Overhead extension with cable( highest weight I can do 7 of for 4 sets)

Pullups- 4 sets of failure
Dips- 4 sets of failure

Chest, Back, Shoulders:
Bench( 135 7 rep warmup, then 175 for 4 sets of 5 reps, highest weight i can do 5 reps of)
Pull-ups(4 sets of failure)

Incline dumbbell press( 4 sets of 6 75lb. dumbbells, highest weight i can do 6 reps of)
Lat Pulldown(highest weight i can do 5 reps of for 4 sets)

Incline dumbbell flys( 45 for 5 reps for 4 sets, highest weight i can do 5 of)
Reverse dumbbell flys( basically facing down doing opposite motion for 4 sets, highest weight i can do 10 reps of)

Front dumbbell raises( highest weight i can do 10 reps of for 4 sets)
Side dumbbell raises(highest weight i can do 10 reps of for 4 sets)

Upright row( highest weight i can do 10 reps of for 3 sets, then 5 reps of 10lb. more)
Shoulder Shrugs with dumbbells(80, 85, 90lb. for 10 reps)

This is on a 2 day cycle. I generally lift Mon-Thurs and Saturday and Sunday depending on soreness.

Please tell me your opinions on my workout and whether not it should help me build mass and raise my maxs. Thanks!

I'm 16, i'm 5ft 6, i weigh 9 stone-ish and my measurements are 34-27-37. I want to lose around a stone and drop 2-3 inches of my stomach and 2 inches off my hips in 45 days. Is it possible with this workout and a sensible diet?

Mon, Wed, Thurs
20 mins eliptical, 10 mins bike, 5 mins rowing then weight machines (arm curl, seated dip, tricep extensions, abdominals, abdominal crunches, rotary torso, leg press, leg extension, hip abductor and calf press) at 3 x 20 reps each, then 10 mins treadmill to cool down.

Sun:
30 mins eliptical, 15 mins bike, 10 mins rowing, then weight machines (same machines as before) 4 x 20 reps, then 10 mins treadmill to cool down.

Also, if it's possible could you tell me which stretches are best for before and after the workout. And what's the difference between a recumbent bike, a hybrid bike and an upright bike.Thankyou!

Answer
Have you asked your local library's help desk to show you their exercise and stretching section? Even though it's old, Bob Anderson's book is still widely regarded.

Hybrid and upright bikes are the same. Both as well as mountain bikes have a diamond frame. (If you just look at the frame without the fork -- the thing that holds the front wheel -- an upright bike's frame looks like a diamond) The difference between them is that a hybrid has some road bike characteristics and some mountain bike characteristics. It's not meant for long distance road bike rides nor heavy-duty off-road rides. All upright bikes have the rider positioned over the pedals.

Recumbent bikes put the rider in a reclining position and pedal down the road feet first. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recumbent_bicycle Some people have to use them because of health issues -- paraplegics or neck/back troubles. Other people ride them for aesthetics.

Another issue between upright and recumbent bikes is cost. Diamond frames cost a little less because of production quantities and economics.

How can i stop my constant fear of dieing?

exercise bikes lifecycle

rosy

iworry all the time and just about go crazy. im already loosing hair at the age of 17!

Answer
You need to think about why it is you are afraid? Did you experience something tragic? Life threatening? Did someone in your family or one of your friends die recently? Really, this fear is valid, but at your age it is unusual to become consumed with the idea of death and dieing.

Do you worry about other things besides this to a point it is interfering with your life, or is this your main thought, your only consuming worry?

Maybe this will help. You are not alone. Every person and every living thing will eventually die. It is usually safe to say you never know when that time will come, but usually there are variables that can help you know the probability of death. Activities you participate will increase or decrease your lifespan...racing your car for example, or drinking and driving are two things that would increase your chances of dieing sooner than later. Smoking, no exercise, poor diet, and stress will most likely cut your life short. But with every action that lessens lifetime, there is the opposite action that may prolong your life. Drive carefully, or ride a bike or walk when it is doable...that will help you twofold. Don't smoke, exercise, eat a balanced diet and do not take life so seriously. Don't get me wrong, I am afraid of death too, or I should say I am afraid of the way I will die...will it hurt? cancer? some rare disease? a terrorist attack? Will I get to see my daughter grow up? Fall in love? Start her own family? Who will care for her if I died in an accident? Sound familiar? We all do it, worry about death, but usually for different reasons. I don't worry about death because I am afraid of it, but because I don't want to leave my daughter motherless. But, if I were consumed by the idea, I couldn't be a very good Mom while I am here, and my worrying would be for nothing because there is nothing I would be able to do about it except try to live a healthy life and avoid reckless activities.

We are all going to die, it is part of the lifecycle. We all have dead relatives, and we will have relatives who live beyond our years. But, in the end, it is inevitable. You are going to die. I am going to die. And everyone else is going to die too. When you are dead, you won't know it because you will be dead. You won't be, and that is okay, because before you were you, before you began to be you, you were not a thing. Perhaps your faith or culture has a story about an afterlife, and thats okay. It does not take away the fact that you and I are going to die. But right now, you are living...kind of.

I say kind of because you are frozen by your fear that is somewhat irrational for your age, unless you jump from airplanes on a daily basis, and I doubt you do. You are young, and you should have many years ahead of you. But, if you don't you won't know it, and worrying about it is just going to make the time you have alive not very happy, is it? In fact, with the constant worrying, I'd say you are making your life miserable, which would not make its end seem so bad, would it? But obviously, you don't want to die, otherwise you would not worry about it at all. Don't you think living your life to the fullest, appreciating every day would make your life that much more worth living? It is the preciousness of life, the fact that it does not last forever that should keep us in check, to appreciate what we have, to do things that make us happy, and to try things that are scary because it may be amazing, but we can't know until we try.

Also, before our solar system became what it is today, all the matter that makes up the planets and the stars and moons...everything in our solar system is composed of the same elements. The Sun is largely what we are not, but it has small amounts of what makes up most of human life. So, if you think about it, we came from stardust. How amazing is that? Everything came from stardust, and so when you die, you will simply change forms. You will not have the same energy, but your essence will still exist. Who knows what it may become again some time?! Not to worry because you wont ever know. For all we know, we were stardust and then another life form before we became who we are.

Nothing lives forever, nothing is certain except that everything is constantly changing, we are all connected through life here on Earth, and we will all die. So, instead of worrying about the inevitable, you should focus on living. I promise, if anything it will definitely prolong your life and then when you do meet death, if you are conscious before death, you can know you lived a good life, feel satisfied and have no fear of the next step. You will not be, and thats okay.

How do I exercise my husky in the summer when he hates water?

exercise bikes denver
on denver photography video denver real estate denver therapeutic denver ...
exercise bikes denver image

Jesse

I'm going to adopt this super sweet 6 year old husky. I've spent a lot of time with him just getting to know him. He's a complete outdoor dog, never been inside. He hates water, more terrified of water. I live in the central valley with days in the summer of 110 sometimes. What should I do to keep him well exercised and cooled down? And if he's always been an outdoor dog should I continue with that? And lastly they say he has a history with digging, any suggestions?

Answer
Ok, first off, he needs to be an indoor dog. 110 degrees is too hot for any dog to be an outdoor dog, especially a husky. With their double coat, they could easily have a heat stroak. Not only that, but dogs are pack animals, and unless they are kept outside with another dog, then it is cruel to keep them away from you for that many hours a day. Dogs NEED to be with their people. They get very stressed and unhappy if left alone.

Most huskies do not like water. It is just a fear typical of the breed. Out husky does, though. Some do. But they really don't like it to go above their stomach. Our husky just likes to stand in the kiddy pool and cool his feet off. The biggest fear of most huskies is for the water to touch their stomachs.

I live in denver, so its been getting about 95 degrees or so every day here for the last month. Not as hot as where you live, but still pretty hot. My husky does not go out during the day. Neither does my shepherd. They go out once in the morning for a potty break, then they sleep under the ac. They go out around lunch for a potty break. Then they sleep under the ac, lol. Its only around dinner time that we really go out to play with them. If its cooled down significantly around 5 or 6, while it's still light out, then I will take them to the dog park. But only if its under 80 degrees out. If not, I wait until dark, and then I like to take them for a bike ride.

Our husky LOVES going for bike rides. This is a breed that was just bred to run and run and run. They will prefer taking a 15 or 20 minute bike ride where they are going at a slight run over a 1 hour walk.

So I would recomend just excersising him after dark or in the late afternoon. You don't want to risk him having a heat stroke or getting over heated.

The digging thing is very common for the breed. Huskies are very smart, get bored very easy, and turn very destructive. I NEVER leave our husky outside unattended. He'll get in to the trash, he'll literally chew on the tree until he has all the bark in one area ripped off, he'll dig, he'll jump the fence or go under the fence if given the chance. So just supervise him, and if he starts doing an unwanted behavior, scold him and bring him back inside. If he loves outside so much, he'll soon learn.

Can you suggest a short run at the Grand Canyon?

I'm visiting the Grand Canyon in a few days as part of a road trip across America and fancy doing a quick run if I have time.

Can anyone suggest any nice running routes, something scenic. I'm looking for 5-10km route, preferably not too hard going, but then again I appreciate this isn't flat terrain.
Wow great answers.

Answer
I take it that you are probably going to the more visited South Rim north of Flagstaff and I-40?

You probably don't want to run on the trails in the canyon itself. Not only are they mostly steep and rough, but - even if you are a trail runner - they will have a lot of day hikers on them that you would have to constantly avoid (and in most places the trail is not wide enough for easy passing at high speed).

However, there is the Rim Trail that runs along the rim of the canyon from Hermits Rest to Mather Point. This is a long level high-quality trail with great views of the canyon. You would have to slow down and be careful where it passes major drive-up overlooks (here you will find crowds of tourists), but for the often fairly long stretches between the major overlooks it is usually sparely used (and with ample places for passing around someone). If you go in the early morning, most of the overlooks will not be too crowded and you will mostly have the rim trail to yourself.

There is also a series of paved bike and walking paths running all around Grand Canyon Village between the lodges, NP offices, store, campground, etc. The scenery is not as dramatic as along the rim, but much of it winds through pleasant pine forests and it is rarely crowded.

Keep in mind that the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is at an elevation of 7,000 feet (half a mile higher than Denver, Colorado). So you may want to take it easy if you are not used to heavy exercise at high altitude. Also that same high altitude means that the South Rim has much cooler weather than most of Arizona. This time of year, temps still drop below freezing at night and highs will only be in the upper 60s to low 70s.

What tax do I need to pay (how many percent?) for buying motorcycle or cars in US and bring it to Canada? Also, can I also do the same monthly payment if I buy it in US? Can you please introduce me any reliable compaby for shipping? Thank you.
I am thinking about buying 2010 Yamaha Road Star Midnight Warrior from US. It is cheaper than buying in Canada.

Answer
If a bike is made in the US or Mexico there won't be any duty. However you wil have to pay the taxes you would normally pay in your province. In addition, you will be required to take it to a designated provincial testing station to insure that the bike meets Canadian standards. This one is just an approx $50-75 exercise.

HOWEVER, Canadian banks WILL NOT loan you the money for an out of country purchase and US banks WILL NOT either because you are not a citizen. So unless you can find the money to pay for it outright, it will definitely not work. Also if you have to have a bike shipped here, it's expensive because then you have to add shipping & BROKERAGE fees because it MUST go through a broker if a shipping company is bringing it in for you.

Another problem you will have is that most motorcycle companies in Canada WILL NOT honour the warranty on a US vehicle, either car or motorcycle. So you have to decide if all these issues outweigh the advantages.

Do you ride your bike on the actual street when there's no bike lane?

1.2.3

I tried riding in the little gutter part of the street but there is so much crap, leaves, glass, etc there that I need to dodge, so I feel like I'm gonna cause an accident. My city is a college city, but it isn't so big and it doesn't have many bike lanes. To get to school I just need to go straight up one street, but this street is very busy during work traffic hours. Do you just ride in the street?
Thanks for all the helpful information!

Answer
Not only do I ride on the "actual street" when there's no bike lane - if conditions exist where the bike lane is not safe - I'll move OUT of that & onto the street. And it's all perfectly LEGAL!

Missouri law states word-for-word... "Every person operating a bicycle or motorized bicycle at less than the posted speed or slower than the flow of traffic upon a street or highway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as safe, exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction, except when making a left turn, when avoiding hazardous conditions, when the lane is too narrow to share with another vehicle or when on a one-way street. Bicyclists may ride abreast when not impeding other vehicles."

"as near to the right side of the roadway as safe,..." does NOT mean hugging the curb or gutter. As you've found out, the gutter is full of road debris. Riding next to the curb also HIDES you from motorized traffic. ALWAYS ride at least 3 feet away from the curb. ALWAYS go around parked cars leaving 4 to 5 feet of space for the "door zone" should some fool not look first before opening that door.

Do I ride on the street 100% of the time? Damn right I do. I'm on a legal street "vehicle" - in all 50 states, Canada & every country in Europe. Multiple links below. Class starts now.

About how long would it take to bike ride about 6 miles on a pretty hilly road at a relaxed speed? (Not too slow, not too fast) Also, if I were to ride this far to and from a place, (12 miles total) about how long would it take me to lose about 20 pounds if i did it 2 or 3 times a week?

Thanks.

Answer
Your questions are quite realive. In VERY general terms, a normal person could ride a hilly 6 miles in 30-40 minutes.

Losing weight is far more a function of calorie intake and exercise. Together, diet and exercise can work wonders.

What should I do to get fit for soccer?

nkcgd

Right now I bike about 6 miles a day and run every other day, I also do about 150 jumping jacks and situps. What are some good exercises to get fit?
I've also been eating plenty of fruit and peanut butter afterwords, is that alright?

Answer
It does sound like you're doing a lot to get in shape for soccer. One thing I personally liked to do before the soccer season was work on some footwork with the ball. Running and biking are great to build up endurance but you also need to work on your soccer skills. Try jogging around while dribbling the ball. Do a drill called "happy feet" which is sitting the ball in front of you and stepping up quickly and tapping the ball with the bottom of your foot. You alternate feet while you do this, and once you get really good the ball shouldn't move at all. Another drill you could do also standing in place with the ball is to keep the ball between your feet and move it from foot to foot as fast as you can (almost like dribbling in place). There's also juggling (trying to use only your feet to keep the ball in the air as long as you can). By working on some of your footwork skills as well as your cardo stuff, you'll be way ahead of your teamates.

Are there any pills for weight reduction that really works.?

I want to reduce inches in my arms and hip sides. any pills without any side effects available in Chennai , India. I have fat deposits on the sides of my hips in the shape of an apple. Is it possible to reduce this and get into shape.

Answer
If you haven't taken diet pills before, beware! Diet pills can have adverse reactions and many of them contain caffeine and other ingredients to give you more energy, and suppress appetite. With that comes shakiness, headaches and a list of side effects you probably don't want. Many women can't take them. Even herbal diet pills, have side effects. And lets not forget the obvious! it will not help you "maintain" your weight, even if you prove to lose a few pounds. It's a quick fix, that is more harmful than helpful. The best way to remove any extra weight and tone up those areas you wish to improve, is good old fashioned exercise & a sensible diet. Cardio is the most effective way to lose weight and you should do it at least 30-40 minutes/3 times a week. Good cardio exercise is like running, speed walking, biking, jumping rope, aerobics etc.. Any activity that boosts your heart rate and is sustained for a certain period of time. Exercising regularly helps you rest better, improves your skin and has too many benefits to list. You can also do this in combination with light weight training, and your arms will look great. If you follow your regimen, you should start to see some improvement in 30 days.

If you still insist on trying diet pills to lose weight, do as much research as possible and consult your doctor. Some doctors will prescribe diet medication and they can monitor you, incase of side effects.

Weight loss problem - need to lose 50 pounds?

Q. Can anyone guide me to what's the best way to lose weight. I need to lose about 50 pounds. I am considering some of the supplements with ephedra. I am also looking at the ones manufactured in India or China.

Answer
I strongly recommend staying away from ephedra and other stimulants. You are just fooling your body and crippling your metabolism.

Firstly, I'd recommend picking up the book 'Never Say Diet' by Chantal Hobbs. It's a lifesaver, and will really teach you how to lose weight permanently, in a healthy maintainable way.

Secondly, the hard truth: You must eat right and exercise. You must burn more calories than you consume. This is the only way to lose weight. I know, it sucks, but you have to commit to being truthful with yourself and just do it.

Do some kind of cardio exercise every day, for 30-40 minutes. Brisk walking, running, swimming, biking, whatever. Just get up and move for 30-40 minutes. Get that heart pumping.

Add in resistance training. I don't care if you go to the gym, use dumbbells, a resistance band, a medicine ball, whatever. Do some sort of resistance training to build muscle. Muscle burns more calories.

Eat several small meals throughout the day. Try to keep your calorie intake around 1500 or so. Eat veggies, fruits, whole grains, tuna, chicken, eggs, etc.

Drink lots of water. Cut out the sugar filled drinks like soda, coffee, cappuccino, energy drinks, etc. How much water? Half your body weight, in ounces. If you weight 200lbs, drink 100oz of water per day.

Good luck. Trust me - natural is the only safe, healthy, permanent way to lose weight. It takes time, it's not overnight. You have to work for it. Pick up that book, read it, it's a big help. Get moving, stop making excuses, stop trying to find the easy way out, and just do it!

Good luck!

How many clothes sizes can I lose in 14 weeks?

I'm doing slimming world - because it's easy for a veggie.
And I will do 30 minutes of yoga each morning and 20-30 mins on an exercise bike every evening.
I currently weigh 16st6lbs (230 lbs) and am a UK size 18/20 (I'm 5ft 9 btw)

If I do this how much weight will I lose? And what dress size will I be for the new year?

Thanks
xxxx

Answer
you should aim for about 2-3lbs per week, my auntie was on slimming world and she did really well out of it. I would expect you to lose more in the first week or 2, maybe 5lbs each. You might plateau though so be careful to mix up the foods that you have so you don't have the same thing all the time.
I'd guess that you could probably loose a maximum of 3 stone which would take you to around 14 stone, probably a size 14.
Good luck and don't give in!!!

what are the benefits of this exercise bike and what can it do to help me.

Answer
Cycling is a cardiovascular work-out which will strengthen the heart, improve stamina, tone leg & butt muscles & reduce body fat "proportionately" all over. The machine you are looking at will do a little more for the abs than a traditional outdoor type bicycle due to the movement of it.

A word of caution...a "good" cardiovascular work-out will last 60 minutes, every other day PLUS a brief warm up & cooling off period at slower speeds. An outdoor type bicycle is a heck-of-a-lot more fun than these indoor ones. If you go with it - have something to do besides pedal away on it. Set up a small TV or radio to keep from getting bored to death. Vary the resistance on it every 10 minutes or so.

C&O

I injured my tailbone at a New Year's party. I had an x-ray done today and it's not broken but the doc says it will take weeks to heal.
I had only just recovered from a broken toe and had gotten back on the track team but now I'm out again. We only have 3 more meets left and I want to run at least once this season.
And even if I don't run in the meets, I would like to keep in shape, although my injury limits the types of exercise I can do.
Can't do...
-running
-exercise bike
-lower body weight lifting
-jumping

Suggestions?

Answer
follow the doctors instructions...they know whats better for your body and what the outcome will be if you do these exercises

What's the difference between the two exercise bikes at the gym?

happygoluc

Hi,
You know how at the gym, they have one exercise bike that's higher up, and more vertical, and one that's lower and horizontal? What's the difference between the two? Such as benefits, and working the different muscles...?

Thanks!

Answer
one is an upright the other is a recumbent bike. They both do pretty much the same thing, but some of us find the recumbent bike more comfortable.
