I have lost 85lbs since my younger son was born. I have stopped all exercise due to a plateau for 3 months and frustration. I have a recumbent bike at home. I am a 26 yr old 5'0" 165. I eat very healthily. Is 30 minutes on the bike 3-4 days a week sufficient to break through my plateau?

Answer
Two things you can do to break a plateau. You need to "fool" the body.

1) Do a different workout, not on the bike
2) Do high impact interval training. This involves a fast pace and a very fast pace. The body can't plateau. You also have a much higher raised metabolism for the rest of the day compared to any other type of exercise.

How can I lose weight without exercising?

Patience

I suffered a back injury. It is continuous and anytime I try to exercise my SI joint and L4/L5 are effected and I end up on my back again. It is a vicious cycle and I want to lose weight and tone up. Anybody have any recommendations on what I can do to lose weight without exercising?

Answer
To lose weight (fat) you must consume fewer calories a day than you burn...so your primary method would be to drop your calories (do not go below 1200 per day). Weight loss will be slower for you, but it can happen...if you can swim or do any form of water aerobics or activity that wouldn't stress your back, that might be an option to help you burn extra calories without aggravating your injury...also possibly a recumbent bike (stationary) as it would have you in a position to help your back relax (slightly reclined)...

If you have gone or are going through physical therapy (which would be common for an injury) what kinds of exercises do you do for that? Surely your PT trainer encourages you to do your exercises at home as well...
