Answer
Remove all forms of sugar from your diet, obviously. Fruit is high in naturally occurring sugar. Don't eat fruit. Stay away from juice. It is not healthy, no matter what the commercials say. Eat an orange or an apple if you really want the fruit because fruit juice is much worse. Have you ever tried to squeeze your own juice? Instead of just getting the sugar from 1 orange or apple or whatever, in a glass of juice, you're probably getting the sugar from, say 15 oranges. I dare you to try to eat that many in one sitting or even in a whole day. It is the fiber of the orange/apple, whatever fruit you like juiced, not the juice, that is "good" for you. Juice and fruits should be avoided. Once you've gotten down to your ideal weight, then eat the fruit but exercise. Plain yogurt and lots of vegetables, salads etc. Don't use ANY dressing. I don't understand why people need dressing on their salads, just put lots of vegetables on it and learn to love it. Dressing in any form, vinegar, oil, whatever is unnecessary other than for taste preference. Adjust your preference because there's no point in eating a salad if you eat dressing. You might as well have not eaten the salad because it undoes any good the lettuce would have done. Eat nuts for protein. Cut out bread, anything w/carbs, (crackers, rice, potatoes, etc) and meat. If you need the bread eat rye or whole grain wheat NO WHITE BREAD. If you really love meat eat fish instead.

The best way is to cut back on what your eating, don't eat out anywhere, and don't eat stuff like chips and cookies and candy. It comes off slower than any of these fad diets, but as long as you don't go back to old eating habits it will work. Like, eat one bowl of cereal for breakfast. Eat a sandwich and some veggies and dip or something like that for lunch. If you need a snack, either eat fruit or if you need to eat something like chips than get low fat ones or quakes (mini flavored rice cakes), they're really good. And then for dinner eat something sensible like a meat, a carb, and a veggie. Then if you need a snack at night again eat something sensible.

The other poster gave you some good sound advice. There are no "quick fixes" to losing weight and keeping it off. It's within ourselves to keep our body's in shape.

Exercising is very important. Try "fast walking" hiking, biking, etc., if you don't want to go to a gym. If you can afford a gym then talk to the trainer there. Don't kid your inner self either. If you truly don't feel you can stick to going to the gym 3 times a week or more, please don't as you will disappoint yourself. Swimming is another good exercise. Try to hook up with some friend and go bike riding (very popular in British Columbia) and keeps you toned up.

Drink 8 - 10 glasses of water as water flushes the kidneys out, keeps all organs (your skin is also an organ) clean and flushes out the impurities of your body including fat.

There may or may not be an easy way to lose weight permanantly and effectively. What may be easy for you may not be easy for another. Here is the way I see it. Your mind and body work together on every aspect. Everything you do is about behavior, therefore, if you have decided that you want to change your weight then you have to change your behavior, your eating behavior. Are you eating your meals too quickly? Are you eating your meals at the correct time? These questions are important to make those changes. Am I eating the right foods to aid in my weight loss? Am I tempted just because a snack is in front of me or can I walk away and say, "no, I am on a program and I intend to follow thru with that plan because I am responsible and I love my body enough to say no." It doesn't mean that you can never enjoy snacks again, just in small quantities and not so often. Not everything has to be about food. It's a condition that you can change. You have become conditioned to overeat. Start there, with your behavior and maybe you might answer other issues of your life along with food.

Always have breakfast. Have a snack between meals such as fruit, or low fat yogurt. Have a good lunch with fruit & vegetables. Have a light dinner then have a snack later on. Try to exercise at least four times a week. Keep your mind relaxed. Have a massage at least once a week. Drink drink drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Try and get fresh air every day.

Reduce carbs

Reduce fats

Go for veggies

Eat fiber

Don't switch foods radically

Make health, not weight loss, your goal

A major reason people get discouraged and drop out of weight-loss programs is weight plateaus. Be patient and break through weight plateaus.

Don't rush weight reduction

Get exercise

Raise your metabolic rate

How to get tone legs and big butt?

Alison

How can I get toned legs not big and bulky though, and a bigger butt?

Answer
A good diet/exercise plan would be:

Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a big pot of it on weekends and scoop out a cup each morning. Add low fat milk, nuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.

Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts and yogurt w/fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.

Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit: banana, orange, apple, kiwi, grapes, peach, nectarine, cherries, pineapple. No chips and nothing ever from a vending machine.

Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it.

Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.
Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.

Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers.

Foods to avoid: junk food, pastries, desserts, sugar, salty foods, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fatty/greasy foods (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza), pasta, potatoes, white bread, rice, canned veggies, ice cream, fast food, soda, chips. And of course no tobacco or alcohol in any form. Both of those add wrinkles and destroy your brain. No oil except olive and mac nut. Coffee also rots your brain.

To keep your skin clear, drink water. Veg. juice is good too. But not canned juice (too much sugar.)

Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming...play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer..

If you lack energy to exercise, take Super B complex.
To lose weight, try an appetite suppressant.
